I’m Calum. I build the websites, the stores and the software behind them. I started ùrlar because small businesses kept being sold sites that made more work, not less: a ticket for every change, hosting that renewed at triple the price, and a developer who eventually stopped replying.

Outside work you’ll find me in the garden, in the kitchen or attempting a DIY job around the house. Whether it’s the garden, a renovation or a client’s website, I enjoy working out how to solve the next problem, and I’ll admit I sometimes lie in bed thinking about it.

There’s no salesperson here, because I’ve never liked being sold to.

ùrlar

pronounced oor-lar, though we say er-lar

It’s Scottish Gaelic for the floor, or the foundation, and that’s what we build. Your website is what the rest of your business stands on: the enquiries, the orders and the reputation people check before they call. If that part is solid, everything you build on top of it will hold.

ùrlar is a small studio. We run our own hosting, monitoring and app, so there’s no retainer to sign and no minimum hours.
